GENRE: Romance
The films entered into the challenge must be in the genre of Romance. These films can be comedic, romantic and or dramatic. Keep in mind most romantic movies have comedy, and most comedies have a great love story. Don’t be afraid to also be vulnerable.
Some examples include: There’s Something About Mary, The Note Book, Marriage Story, When Harry Met Sally, As Good As It Gets, Dirty Dancing, Silver Linings Playbook, Knocked Up, Brokeback Mountain, Pretty Woman, Moonlight, Once, Moonrise Kingdom, Love Actually, Romeo and Juliet, Casablanca, Say Anything, etc…
Special note: Each film must have someone with a disability in front of or behind the camera. THEME: Choose one theme per film. Options include:
– Unlikely couple
– A first encounter
– A reunion
Theme Option 1: An unlikely couple
Do you find yourself suddenly paired up with someone who looks or acts different from you? Are you a fish out of water? Do you have a new neighbor, classmate, roommate, boss, or did you just become someone’s boss? This theme will explore conflict that arises when you are forced to work or interact with someone new.
Theme Option 2: A first encounter
Did you ever fall in love at first sight? Did you ever meet someone and hate them during your first meeting? Did your feelings change over the course of getting to know them? This theme will explore feelings that arise when you meet someone new.
Theme Option 3: A reunion
Did you ever meet someone that you haven’t seen in a long time? Were they the same or were they completely different? This theme will explore the emotions that arise from reconnecting with someone.
SETTINGS:
Your film does not have to take place exclusively within the locations below, but the main action of the film must take place in at least one of these settings:
– An apartment/ house, or recreational area
– A café, storefront
– A garage or parking lot
STORY ELEMENTS: Filmmakers must incorporate at least two of these items in their films:
– journal or notebook
– flowers
– The number ‘10’ as a prop or in spoken dialogue
– hat
– scarf
– blanket
DURATION: All films must be between 1-5 minutes in length, not including the credits. If the addition of the credits puts the film over 5 minutes, that is acceptable, however films cannot exceed 6 minutes.
Submission Deadline: All entries must be uploaded as downloadable Vimeo files and linked to FilmFreeway, or uploaded to FilmFreeway directly (make sure you change the settings to downloadable) by 9 p.m. EST / 6 p.m. PST on Sunday, April 2nd, 2023. Finalists will be announced on April 22nd. Winners will be announced on Thursday, May 4th, 2023 at Sony Pictures Studios.
