Beverly Hills, November 1, 2017 – Earlier this month, The Easterseals Disability Film Challenge made a splash at Variety’s Inclusion Summit, an annual gathering of leaders and innovators supporting film, TV and digital media. The event aligns thought leaders to discuss diversity in media, especially concerning gender, disability, sexual identity, ethnicity, age and more.
Easterseals presented one of the morning’s panels, Hollywood Finds its Voice for Change. Moderated by Malina Saval, the Associate Features Editor of Variety, the panelists discussed how they are rallying their fans and the entire entertainment industry to join them in the fight for inclusion and social change.
Easterseals Disability Film Challenge Director Nic Novicki joined actors Rowan Blanchard, Yvette Nicole Brown, Cindy Chu, Lou Diamond Phillips and Danny Woodburn on the panel.
Challenge Director Nic Novicki noted, “Being involved in the Variety Inclusion Summit was a big step forward for the Easterseals Disability Film Challenge. It connected the challenge to Variety which has been a powerful voice for inclusion in the entertainment industry for the last decade.”
“It gave us a platform to tell decision makers, executives, writers, directors and actors about the Challenge and why it’s important,” Novicki continued. “Throughout the day I continued to meet like-minded people who were committed to furthering diversity and inclusion in the entertainment industry. We are all so excited to see the industry change for the better, and now a lot more people know how the Challenge can help bring about that change.”
Other notable speakers at the Summit included Anita Hill, Chelsea Handler, Nely Galán, Lee Daniels, Geena Davis, Paul Feig and Jordan Peele. Check out some more photos from the event!
