As part of the Easterseals Disability Film Challenge (EDFC), the winning filmmakers are awarded mentorship meetings with active members of the entertainment industry. Cory Reeder won “Best Film” for the 2017 challenge with his film Best Friend, and recently met with Scott Silveri, the creator of ABC’s Speechless. Speechless has created a buzz throughout Hollywood for featuring Micah Fowler, an actor who has cerebral palsy in real life. Scott Silveri’s own experiences growing up with a brother who has cerebral palsy helped him develop the show, which has had a positive impact on the disability community in Hollywood.
Writer/director/producer Cory Reeder has fostered his lifelong love of cinema by starting his own production company, Renaissance Man Productions. He is now among the most involved film challenge participants, and is an advocate for expanding the inclusion of underrepresented groups in film. He has entered a film into the Easterseals Disability Film Challenge for each of the past three years.
